Bi District Notes MUST COMMENT & INFO ON AREA

Clean up accents.  Make them consistent. Briggs boy needs to be louder.
Continue to create strong characters with your bodies that can RIVAL JC Smuts – he had the best physicality.
Sing in British accents
More fog throughout show.
Losing some lines when yelling. Play the opposite.
Singing at beginning – Frank and Judith must establish loving relationship.
Tech  and set – loved it.
Briggs family – great – Alister needs to be stronger
Ironing board – Frank walks in singing and they dance  - but he sings first

Inconsistent  accents – Reese, Evan, Ramzi
Needs work on Australian dialect
In dead scene, each actor needs to TOP the former speakers’ line.
He didn’t like Tipperary – so long, but Geistman and Davis did
Presentational? You are not taking away my children.
Frank, talk to Judith not audience – your monologue with her.
In Gently family, why do people turn away?
Daughter go to Mom after Frank
Hurry home- and all lines shouted at distance.
Smuts – british dialect
React more like a girl to body – Mira
Bela – plead to Judith
Foreman must be out at factory scene.
Evan and Reese – work on Aussie dialect
Haris – why do you decide to get up?  Why do you decide to walk away? See decisions. Be HESITANT to open yourself to Viv.
NOISE ON STAGE LEFT
Tom – build to I hate my dad.
Girl (Payton) cannot see you from audience – Judge’s perspective.
Sound too loud in dead scene
Change Briggs – Mom turn to Bill, hold him and sob. Hide bat,  Go to Alister and break down.  Drop bat in rubble.
Factory girls – good reaction to Judith, but react more to Joan as well. I hate my country.
Joan after shooting be physically affected by shooting the German.  You are too relaxed.
At end tips of fingers stay for a beat J and Frank
EVERYONE – say each others names at least three times.  Each character.
Presentational vs. Realistic.
All relationships need to be as clear as the Gentlys – Briggs, Justice, women to women, men to women, men to men (Jon and Ramzi) in factory.
Clamps
Canvas wraps- people carry them in.  People carry individual clamps in bags.
This is getting crazier(in a good way- lots of changes),  and we are having a modified rehearsal schedule this week.

·         Monday night – we will rehearse from 8-10 – parents have a dual credit meeting at 6 in the auditorium.
·         Wednesday night – we will rehearse from 8-10 – after everyone’s church services, I hope.

Thursday our official rehearsal is at 8:30 AM. We will leave Shallowater at 6:30.  PLEASE ensure that our kids go to bed after rehearsals.  With such a long day, and little sleep, I don’t want the show to be like a slow motion movie without energy.  We have a great chance of advancing to the next level.

  1. Great job at Bi-District everyone! We need to keep progressing our show and I can tell everyone is working hard to do so! We need to make sure we can tell when we are being presentational and when we aren't (we are getting there!). Also, any opportunity you have to say names, do it so roles become clearer. Good work everyone!

  2. Way to go guys! Everyone did so good at Bi- District. I know that some things were stressful but everyone pushed through despite that, and that is something to be proud of. We need to make sure we are remembering all the cool stuff that we have added in the time from Tulia to now!

  3. Everybody knows we didn't do our absolute best at bi-district but we still did amazing! We need to take the critiques that we received and put them to they're full potential. I've worked on my accent and will be more mindful of developing my character more throughout the show since I will be handing out letters throughout the plot of the play. Remember your critiques, become your character, and change throughout the play. We're gonna do great!

  4. I really enjoyed getting to hear another judges critiques on what we need to fix, sometimes it helps to get a fresh eye on the play and see what they think. I agree with lots of the hints he wanted us to fix and i think we will be better because of it. Keep working at these tonight and we will get to where we need to be.

  5. i feel like bi district was bumpy, but apparently it all looked great:) i definitely think we need to work on staying in accents the whole time. the play is really growing, and all we’ve added and scenes we’ve worked on really tops it off. i feel like we need to work on the briggs scenes a little more, but overall it’s all so good!! the relationships between characters is growing, & you can tell!! this week make sure to have allll costume pieces so we’re not stressed back stage!!! don’t forget the “small” changes we’ve made... i think we’re going to do great:)

  6. I think we need to take our past experience with this season and really use our mistakes to propel us forward. When we mess up in practice it’s not a big deal, but when we mess up a performance we feel it. The pressure of it burns the corrections into your mind so you won’t ever forget them. So logically if we have all our mistakes fixed then we should be getting better, which I think is happening.

  7. I think bi-district was great, and so was Area, however there are many nit picky details we could focus on to make our performance a million times better. I do believe that the timeing on the last gunshot is vague. We need to focus on that this week, as well as our organization with our clothes. We spend too much time and money on them to be treating them unwell. We need to keep persevereing and pushing as a team!!!

  8. We did an amazing job at Bi-District. Even though we felt like we didn’t when we walked off the stage, we still worked hard out there. I think it helps up so much as a group to hear critiques from judges because it allows us to hear what we need to fix and make our show better!

  9. Like I said in my other blog post I think bi district was our best performance so far. I am super excited for what is to come from this cast. We can’t get cocky because the other schools are gonna bring it. So we have to too

  10. We did such an amazing job at Bi-District! Everyone just keep working fast especially during official rehearsals so that we have plenty of time for Carly and Riley to do lights and sound! Also just keep working on your people noises and your body language towards the judges and the other characters. Lets keep working hard and doing great!

  11. Although bi-district wasn't y'alls best performance, i think it still went well. i feel like one of the main problems is that y'all are leaving some things up to chance and hoping it will work out. in this play, everything needs to be timed out and put into place (while still not anticipating). One specific thing that could be timed better is the gunshot in the end. everything goes so well in the last scene and the gunshot is always hit or miss. if we work on the timing i know y'all can get it. keep up the good work!

  12. Bidistrict was pretty good. We just need to keep working and not get cocky. Keep working on diction and people noises and anything else that you think needs to be worked on. Don’t peak too soon! Continue to get better and better. Continue developing your character. Don’t anticipate. Just keep doing great!

  13. Bidistrict definitely wasn’t the best but it wasn’t awful either. There was a lot of things we could’ve done better. The next performance will be great!!

  14. haha I realize i’m going back in time by commenting on this post, however, I think there are notes from here that still apply to us. we’ve worked out plenty of kinks, and I think we just need to work on nailing down the little changes we make because we are at the point where we meet real competition. we just have to get in the mind set and realize we have the skill and we deserve a place. however, we can’t get cocky because some of these other plays deserve it too. but I want the school that will advance with us to be a real competitor. don’t give our spot away to someone who doesn’t deserve it. we deserve to compete against people that work hard too. i’m not interested in beating weak plays. that should be a given. it’s time for us to show up and show them that we deserve state.

  15. Hello from the future. At this point we have advanced from area with two ones and a two. I thought we did good, but we can always improve. Diction is a must:
