Last rehearsal video and instructions for district

I think you are ready. Tomorrow – Students need to be here at 8AM with makeup on or bring makeup.  Girls need to have hair curled BEFORE coming to school.  Only actors may go home to change clothes and take makeup off.  All others are expected to bring dress clothes here.  The shows start at 10AM.  We will go on anywhere from 10:45-11AM.   There will be a short break during the day so judges and timers can eat.  The eighth show will end about 5.  Judges should have made their decisions by 6.  If we lose, we will be critiqued by 7-7:30.  If we win it will be closer to eight.  Students need to wear the team jersey all day and bring dress clothes for the awards ceremony.  You may take pictures during the awards ceremony, but not during any plays.  Nicole Talley is providing lunch.  Pizza will be served for dinner. Following this contest, our next rehearsal is March 17 from 4-10PM.
If you have any questions, please contact me.

Tomorrow while getting ready, we will go over the slow mo, factory scene - with Jonny and Ramzi and rehearse with Colin. Lightning bolts up on lovely and be FIERCE.

Jill Luddington - lead judge who gives awards.  She said this about All the King's Men

All the King's Men had multiple locations like this play -

1. Ensemble work is a strength.
2. Do not rush.  She wants" to go on the journey" and absorb the scenes.
3. Work on relationships. I need to see the past and present when I look at these characters.  Moments are needed for plot development, believability and relationships .
MAY BE A PROBLEM FOR THIS JUDGE - at times there was so much creative and interesting things going on, I didn't know where to focus.
She looks at the journey, character growth or change - a dramatic arc for characters. There must be a reason behind the singing.

Peggy Lovett (Jack in Beanstalk and Charley and All the King's Men & a workshop.
Volume and diction, relationships. Loves surprises, hit consonants, must see the journey, must feel the environment of the play. Everyone on stage must listen to each other and react. Be sure the show is fresh and new each time you walk on stage.  Think of the emotions you are asked to play. We must see the emotions expressed physically and vocally without doing the expected. The ending of the show - Slower with the light so we can have a great stage picture. Big on moments and hearing people noises and breathing. Say each other's names often. MUST SEE DISCOVERIES.

Shari Belizzi - Davis - last year with Gut Girls at Shallowater
Energy and pacing
stage pictures
Watch shouting
clean diction

  2. I know this is late but I think we killed it at district, but we can’t get a big head. We need to keep working and improving our show. Everyone has come together in such a great way and I love it!! It’s amazing what all we can accomplish when everyone is willing and ready to work. I’ve been in high school one act for all four years and I have never had a rehearsal after spring break that went as well as the one last night went. I’m amazed at what all we can do when we put our mind to it. We need to go over the small things that need fixing and work out all the kinks so that we can continue to get better and better. I need to work on interacting more because sometimes I just go through the motions and don’t act like I am Viv or Hilda. Before every competition I think it’s useful to reread your character sketch, just so that you can get a feel of your character and dive into their lives. I’m so eager to go deeper into the oap season and become closer with everyone involved in oap! So proud of everything that we have accomplished!

  3. I wanna say that everyone is doing a great job working hard on what they need to be doing personally I think if we keep up this work ethic if we keep the goal in front of us (no pun intended) we could totally go to state

  4. Everyone needs work because the only easy day was yesterday. I think we all need to live by this and understand that no matter if you think your perfect in acting or lights or sound you still can fix something whether it is big or small you can do it

  5. We did a great job at district and I am so proud of the work we have done! We can't lose our energy here or have expectations for next competition. We need to keep working hard and become consistent with our production.

  6. It might be a good idea to go back and look at our notes that we have taken throughout the year to really make sure that we are doing everything we can to be as good as possible.

  8. I agree with payton. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves and make district our peak. Let’s get better and better the show everyone we know how how to progress. Like with my other comment on the last post remember to be spontaneous and it will be great!

  9. we did really well at district but we can only go up from there. that can't be our peak, we have to keep moving forward. we are a talented cast with a lot of potential but we are gonna have to work for whatever we're wanting.

  10. I feel like everyone is peaking and working hard. Keep pushing and try something different every practice, we will tell you if it looks bad. Good job guys!

  11. If we can keep improving by watching our mistakes even the tiniest subtle mistakes can improve our play so much.

  12. As mrs.c has said, we shouldn't peak right now but be steady increasing in performance effort. I think we still need to be working on the first factory scene more until it flows well

  15. So district was amazing guys. One my first medal too. We can’t give up. We need to move forward not backwards. I think the color coordination was very clever and good. We are the most stylish group no doubt.

  16. We need to really buckle in and commit ourselves to the improvement of our performance as a whole and individually. Nothing is going to be handed to us and we really need to focus now. Personally o need to work on keeping my lines from dying at the end not to forget that one line!! Gahhh😂 full out every time you’re in stage. As soon as we step in we need to step out of ourselves and into our characters.
