Spring break info - not a comment grade

Just to refresh everyone’s memory I’ve included the information I sent to everyone in the fall. Several parents are concerned about spring break and I understand because I’d like to get out of Dodge myself J Instead of the 16th, 17th, and 18th, we will be rehearsing on the 17th and 18th.  JV baseball has a game at 10 AM and we have one student involved.  There is no track meet or anything else scheduled.  We will rehearse Saturday, March 17 from 4 until 10 in costume.  We may let them out early.  We will provide dinner for the kids.  We will then again rehearse Sunday, March 18 at 2 on stage in costume. Bi- district will be in Tulia with official rehearsal on the 23rd and contest on the 24th. Our practice schedule will be mixed up because we have district academic contest that week so many of my kids will be practicing for those.  That contest is the 21st.  We will also have track and baseball. I know it will have only been a week (spring break), but it will be like starting over.  Lines, cues, blocking will have been forgotten.  It is usually a retraining rehearsal.  The only date that has changed below is the regional contest.  It has always been the Thursday and Friday prior, but the contest is on Monday.  We will look at travel, etc. as we cross that bridge.  Please stress to your children that we cannot lose any costumes, and the best way to do that is to hang them in the dressing room as they have been instructed – hats, hankies, and all. Our crew kids and there are more of them than actors have been amazing.  You can’t help but look at our set with amazement.  And to think that I now have a seamstress – Kristen Alexander – how lucky am I?   Thank you again for sharing your children with us.  We are fortunate. I do need a parent runner  when we travel in case we forget something.   Please call, text or email with concerns or suggestions.

Subject: OAP
Importance: High

Dear parents,
Sorry for the millionth email.   I may not have made myself clear.  Students have three unexcused absences (grandparent’s birthdays, family dinners, etc.)   Three tardies = one absence. Most of the students who have been with OAP since they were younger know this has been my rules from day one.  If you are new, these dates were in the packet.

These dates are non-negotiable.  If your child/children will not be in town on these days, he/she does not need to audition for a part and my still be with the group as a crew member or alternate.  Theatre is like a sport.  If the coach tells you  to be at a practice, most students adhere to a coach’s request.
January 22 – here with Freida
February 15 – Lou in Post
Perry Crafton  FEBRUARY 1 8:30 is the tech time and 9-11 in Tulia
Rehearsal March 16 & or 17 & March 18 of Spring Break  - we have a contest the week before springbreak and do not have time to put in place the suggestions of the judges.  Also, students lose about one week of rehearsal and return to regular practice forgetting lines.  We have ground to make up.  Once again, if your child will miss any of these dates, he/she should not audition.

District contest March 5 and 8th Here
Bi District March 23 & 24 Tulia
Area March 28 & 29 - Seminole
Region April 16 Abilene
State OAP - April 23-25, 2018 & May 3-5, 2018 Austin

February 1 - Perry Crafton

Everyone
·         There is a lot going on.  The first song must be done with purpose as though you are trying to CONVINCE the audience that there will always be an England.
·         In chaos, look around and out to audience. Nice coming out of the rubble.
·         Overall assessment he wants to see characters find connection to story and each other. Examples, reactions, eye contact
·         You must have no idea what is happening in the next scene
·         You must enunciate!!! He could not understand the beginning.
·         Pronounce t’s better. Hit consonants!!!
·         Why are they singing that song??? Purpose, pride, strength
·         All actions and words need purpose!
·         Sometimes Joan, Brigg’s, tactics are too harsh on other person. Ashlynn back off the anger. More disappointed, sad and pleading. Find a moment to plead with him with softer tactics and need him more.
·         Slow mo song is almost there, but you are not following through on actions.
·         Likes the dead people except Kate is swaying.
·         The goodbye was too emotional up front.
·         All change has to be discovered in each scene… Not tragic
·         Make this a story and experience that unfolds in front of the audience
·         Find moments for deep connection, eye contact, pause, song etc…
·         Connect to a deeper thought process, wants to see you think, struggle, small struggles!!!
·         Don’t force struggle down his throat.
·         He wants to see the emotions more realistic
·         What is the expectation??!?!!
·         When expectations are not met, we should see DISCOVERY, then reaction. We are going straight to reaction.
·         PROCESS of DISCOVERY in this play… It’s not happening with our characters.
·         Slow down the process, so that we can see the DISCOVERY.
·         Women in the farewell goodbye need to connect to sending all men off to war.
·         Staging issues in factory.
·         We need more subtle meaning!
·         EVERYONE – TENSION THOUGHT STRUGGLE – RELEASE IN THE EXPRESSION.
·         Great levels of energy.
·         In freezes – freeze in motion and finish the motion.
Judith
·         Make discoveries with the first letter.
·         is still foreshadowing the ending. Needs a process of change. The letter about children cannot be as serious as it is. Your character must build, arch on the way to the change.
·         Wants more change from Judith as the play goes on.
·         Kadyn you should be different when you are alone falling apart. When you are with the kids, you must put it back together. Be strong with kids.
·         The children letter needs more information than emotion. But, Kadyn can play this as new information and begin to change her character.
·         Kadyn could almost go quiet when she says “not taking my children.”
·         Staging issues in factory.
·         We need more subtle meaning!
·         Step on Ashlyn’s last line – “the Last one”
·
Joan
·         Ashlynn you must build to end as well.
·         Ashlynn he doesn’t believe you are smoking. Put the cigarette out at some point.
·         The end of the play must show a drastic change in Joan. You must be a different person in that moment. Don’t react to shooting him until the second time you say, “shot a man.”
·         Hair up – ask Sarah
·         What is the significance of the watch? Don’t be too harsh with Brian.
·         Remember – what is important – the cig or Brian.  The cig or Judith?
·         Process on the second – I shot a man – it has to HIT you.

Judith and Joan
Play the reality – almost there  what is important ?
Women
·         In farewell – need more connections to boys and each other.
·         Women workers very nice good use of business, but sing with purpose going in and exiting the scene.
Aussie 1
Spender
·         In the bar, Reese’s freezes are fake and not in the moment.

Angie
You don’t look differently when the soldier dies.
Frank and Judith
·         Last Frank and Ju dance is a little staged. Pull her closer. She doesn’t want a dance, she wants security and love.
·         More emotional
Last dance must be more emotional – pull her close
Girl in dead scene
Watch swaying.
Music
Farewell scene
Cut siren after frank’s letter
Angie and Judith
Freeze when scene is in bar
Aussie 2
Charge
Frank
Frakker
Throw the rocks with purpose.
Watch yelling.
Briggs
Don’t be so harsh with ALister missing the leg. Make a discovery.
JC Smuts
good
Frakker crew -
Good
